Today

AI + Legal Expertise

BlackBoiler partners with global enterprises, law firms, and procurement teams — combining the power of AI with legal expertise to transform contract review at scale.

"What if contract review could be automated — not just through templates, but with real intelligence that mirrors how lawyers think?"
— Dan Broderick, Founder & CEO

It Started with a Simple Frustration

In 2015, Dan Broderick, a corporate contract attorney, found himself stuck in a familiar grind — editing the same language in contracts over and over again. He knew there had to be a better way.

He reached out to software engineer Jonathan Herr with a bold idea. Jonathan's first response? "There must already be something that does this." But there wasn't.

Building the First of Its Kind

What began as late-night and weekend brainstorming sessions turned into a full-fledged mission to reinvent contract review. Over the next three years, Dan and Jonathan built what would become the world's first AI-powered contract redlining software.

In 2018, they received critical early funding from the National Science Foundation, validating their vision and helping bring their solution to market.

Where We Are Today

What started as a simple frustration has grown into a category-defining company. Today, BlackBoiler continues to lead as the first-to-market pioneer in automated contract redlining — working with legal teams and organizations across industries to transform the way contracts are reviewed.
